Associate
Emily joined Kugler Kandestin in August 2022. Previously, she was counsel at the Department of Justice Canada, where she assisted with international investigations and prosecutions of crimes against children, human trafficking, sexual assault and various cyber-facilitated offences. While at Justice, Emily was tapped to provide support to the Honourable Harry S. LaForme and Honourable Juanita Westmoreland-Traoré during the public-facing consultations on the creation of an independent Miscarriages of Justice commission to consider wrongful conviction applications in Canada.
During her legal studies at McGill University, Emily volunteered with the Mobile Legal Clinic (Clinique Juridique Itinérante) a legal clinic which promotes access to justice for individuals living in homeless shelters across Montreal. Emily also interned at Human Rights Watch in New York, NY. At McGill, she was awarded the Lindsey Anne Cameron prize in Human Rights Law and the S. Frances Norych Memorial entrance scholarship.
Prior to law school, Emily studied Global Development studies at Queen’s University and was a peer educator in Salluit, Nunavik, where she worked with elders and health practitioners to develop and facilitate mental and sexual health curricula tailored to the needs of Inuit youth.
