Class action against the Attorney General of Quebec for unlawfully detained persons

We are very pleased to announce that the Superior Court of Quebec has rendered a Judgment authorizing the class action instituted by Kugler Kandestin LLP and Coupal Chauvelot S.A. against the Attorney General of Québec for persons who were unlawfully detained in Quebec.

The class action is for the benefit of the following group of people:

“All persons in Quebec who have been unlawfully detained, either on the basis of a document that does not comply with a court order, or at the end of a prison term, or after a court ordered their release, including but not limited to persons identified in the Attorney General of Quebec’s register of unlawfully detained persons.[TRANSLATED]”

On September 5, 2024, we filed the Application to Introduce Class Action Proceedings (available in French only) with the Court.

Kugler Kandestin files Application for Authorization to Institute a Class Action against the Attorney General of Quebec for unlawfully detained persons

Kugler Kandestin and Coupal Chauvelot have jointly filed an Application for Authorization to Institute a Class Action against the Attorney General of Quebec for persons who were unlawfully detained in Québec.

The class action is for the benefit of the following group of people:

“All persons in Quebec who have been unlawfully detained, either on the basis of a document that does not comply with a court order, or at the end of a prison term, or after a court ordered their release, including but not limited to persons identified in the Attorney General of Quebec’s register of unlawfully detained persons [TRAD].”
